India records 640 fresh Covid-19 cases: 265 cases in Kerala, Noida reports its 1st case

India recorded 640 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, with which, the number of active cases climbed to 2,997 from 2,669 the day before, according to Union health ministry data.

The country’s Covid-19 tally now stands at 4.50 crore (4,50,07,212). The death toll climbed to 5,33,328 with one more fatality reported from Kerala, the data updated at 8 am stated.

The number of people who have recuperated from the disease has increased to 4,44,70,887. The national recovery rate stands at 98.81 per cent, according to the health ministry’s website.

The case fatality rate stands at 1.19 per cent.

According to the ministry’s website, 220.67 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccine have been administered in the country so far.

Kerala reported 265 fresh Covid-19 infections and one death due to the disease in the last 24 hours.

Of the 328 Covid infections reported nationwide till 8 am today, 265 were from Kerala, taking the active cases in the state to 2,606.

With one death reported in the state, the total number of people who have died due to coronavirus in Kerala since its outbreak three years ago reached 72,060.

A Noida resident has tested positive for Covid, in a first case of the infection in Uttar Pradesh’s Gautam Buddh Nagar after several months, officials told news agency PTI.

West Bengal has reported eight new Covid cases and health officials are checking for the presence of the JN.1 strain among patients.

Among the eight cases, one is a six-month-old child admitted to Calcutta Medical College Hospital. A 58-year-old patient, resident of Behala, is admitted to a private hospital in Alipore.

Of the two patients admitted at Bellevue Clinic in Minto Park, one was admitted on December 3 and is still under treatment. Another patient, a resident of Bhowanipore, was tested positive on December 20. According to hospital sources, one of these patients is suffering from malaria as well.
