BJP Ramnagar candidate reaches out to Muslims on Eid-ul-Fitr, seeks support for bypoll

Agartala mayor and BJP Ramnagar Assembly bypoll nominee Dipak Majumder on Thursday appealed to the minority community to vote for him.

During a visit to the South Ramnagar Jame Masjid on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, he assured members of the minority community that he would work for the development of the constituency, including the Muslim-dominated South Ramnagar area, if he gets elected.

“I pray to Allah on this Holy Eid for all your well-being. Please keep your faith in me. I shall work for you and I have faith that you will pray for me so that I can participate in developmental activities for the Ramnagar constituency,” the 64-year-old BJP leader said.

Tripura Minority Affairs Minister Sukla Charan Noatia also extended greetings to the Muslim community. After visiting the Gedu Miah Masjid in Agartala, he said, “I wish for peace, and prosperity for them (Muslim devotees) on the occasion of Eid. Our government is always with everyone and this is the outlook of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Our state government led by Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha also follows the same principle.”

Former MLA and incumbent Tripura Wakf Board chairman Mobossor Ali said, “Eid brings happiness for all beyond caste, creed or religion. We pray that the day brings happiness for everyone.”

Unakoti district Congress President Mohammad Badruzzaman said, “We hope that all sections of people take part in the festivities keeping communal harmony intact… and create a beautiful Tripura.”

Later in the day, Tripura Congress President Ashish Kumar Saha, who is also the Opposition INDIA Bloc’s candidate for the West Tripura parliamentary constituency, wished the residents on the occasion of Eid.

Dipak Majumder has been pitted against INDIA Bloc candidate Ratan Das in the Ramnagar bye-election. The bypoll was necessitated following the death of sitting MLA Surajit Dutta in December last year. Voting for the bypoll will be held along with the first phase of the Lok Sabha polls on April 19.
