The timely onset of monsoon is likely over the South Andaman Sea and the IMD has said the country is set to receive ‘above’ normal rainfall during June-September due to multiple favourable ocean-atmosphere factors.
This is the first time in a decade that the IMD has predicted “above normal” rainfall at the first stage itself, nearly 45 days ahead of the beginning of the four-month monsoon season. It is usually more conservative with its predictions in the first stage.
While the minimum temperature in Delhi settled at 7.6 degrees Celsius today, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dense fog from December 25 to December 28 in the national capital.
An ‘orange’ alert has been issued over Tamil Nadu, as well as coastal and interior Andhra Pradesh for Sunday and Monday by the IMD.
The IMD also issued an orange alert for the day in the districts of Thiruvananthapuram and Idukki.
“Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea in view of the strong winds during the upcoming four days,” said V K Mini, meteorologist, IMD, Thiruvananthapuram.
